Abstract

Conductance to K+ alters as a function of membrane potential (Ψm). Conductance to H+ (or OH-) changes with external pH (pHo) This conductance change can be modulated by altering cytoplasmic pH or external K+ concentration, both of which also alter Ψm. We suggest a role for H+ conductance in regulating cytoplasmic pH above pHo 7.0.
