Abstract
This communication raises two important issues. First, it describes the history of case-based teaching and its adoption by scientists, most of whom are biologists and asks the question, "If the method is so promising, why aren't more chemists and other physical scientists using the approach?" Second, the various styles of case study teaching are compared using the well-known "Cone of Learning" as a standard. The methods using the greatest student interaction, such as problem-based learning, are proposed to produce the greatest learning.
