Abstract

A specimen is mounted on a rotating mechanical stage for microtomography using an X-ray shadow projection microscope system employing a scannable point source of X-rays. A generalized Feldkamp's cone beam image reconstruction algorithm is developed in consideration of the hardware characteristics and limitations of current cone beam reconstruction. Two kinds of scanning modes were present in the cone beam reconstruction, planar and helix like. The planar scanning locus was used to handle spherical or plate like specimens and the helix like scanning locus was used to deal with rod shaped specimens.
