Abstract
The technique utilizes the latent heat of vaporization of a vapor to heat the workpiece. Advantages are that the part temperature cannot exceed the boiling point of the working fluid and the fluid which contacts the part is clean, i. e. , distilled. The nature of the heating process and the design of the equipment are described and the required properties of a working fluid are discussed. Measurements of the thermal characteristics and the heat transfer coefficient of the process are also presented and mass production soldering described.
