Comparison of Phase-Resolved and Steady-State Fluorimetric Multicomponent Determinations Using Wavelength Selection

Abstract

Results for the fluorimetric determination of a three-component system (anthracene, POPOP, and Me2POPOP) using phase-resolved fluorescence spectroscopy to combine fluorescence lifetime selectivity with wavelength selectivity are compared with results obtained for conventional steady-state determinations using wavelength selectivity alone. A 4-fold increase In accuracy and a 10-fold decrease In error magnitude are achieved for the phase-resolved approach relative to the steady-state results. The combination of lifetime with wavelength selectivity requires no additional measurements or calculations when phase-resolved fluorescence is used to implement the lifetime selectivity, once the optimal conditions for the method have been determined.
