Abstract
The laser actions of Yb-doped KYW and KGdW laser crystals were investigated in continuous wave (CW) and Q-switched modes under laser diode pumping. The active elements used in the experiment were two, identical in size and concentration, anti-reflective coated crystals. The Yb-doped KYW crystal, in both CW and Q-switched regime, showed superiority over the Yb-doped KGdW crystal. However, the Yb-doped KGdW crystal was found to be more stable with repetition rate and pulse width over different output couplers.
