Comparing furnace to laser annealing in ion implanted surface passivated MINP solar cells

Abstract

A comparison is made between furnace and laser annealing in 5 keV ion implanted MINP high efficiency solar cells. Cells with laser annealing show a 2 to 3% higher Jsc due to improved IR response. Laser annealed cells also show reduced Uoc, FF, and efficiency since laser annealing disturbs the optimum surface layer design. Higher excess current components for these cells suggests an increase in recombination. It is concluded that furnace annealing is preferred in these types of cells.
