Abstract
It is shown that the one pion exchange interaction that arises in the Afnan-Thomas model of the NNπ system has unphysical matrix elements which connect spin singlet and spin triplet states of the two nucleon system. The unphysical coupling arises only between singlet and triplet states for which the orbital angular momentum is equal to the total angular momentum. This coupling vanishes in the static limit.
