Abstract
The effectiveness of coke powder as an admixture in cement, for electromagnetic interference shielding, was reported. Coke powder was found to be more effective than carbon filaments and less effective than steel fibers. Shielding effectiveness values of 45 and 49 dB were attained at 1.5 GHz using coke powder at 0.51 and 1.02 vol.% respectively. Addition of coke beyond 1.02 vol.% produced little further gain in the shielding effectiveness or electrical conductivity.
