Cholesterol lowering and mortality: A great success story!

The publication of this editorial comment together with the viewpoint by de Lorgeril and Salen aims to focus the attention of our readers on a very important - although controversial - topic that might have important implications not only for epidemiologists but also for clinicians and decision-makers in charge of public health. We hope that a debate will follow, and we will be pleased to publish on the website of our journal all the letters that will comment these two articles, the authors' replies and, possibly, a short statement on future research needs in this field.
