Abstract

This article provides useful information for the treatment of childhood obesity. First, the relative risks of childhood obesity at various ages are considered. Second, the importance of family factors on the development of obesity is reviewed. Third, the treatment of childhood obesity, focusing on the family-based, behaviorally oriented methods developed at the Pittsburgh Childhood Weight Control program is presented.
