Abstract

Juvenile sex offenders (JSO) are individuals under 18 years old who engage in harmful or inappropriate sexual acts. Treatment of JSO begins with a comprehensive risk assessment that evaluates static and dynamic factors in the youth and their environment that may have contributed to the behavior. Psychoeducation and individual, family, and group therapy, driven by social learning theory or attachment theory are common treatment approaches in community-based and residential care.
