Characterization and Comparison of Three Fiber-Optic Sensors for Iodide Determination Based on Dynamic Fluorescence Quenching of Rhodamine 6G

Abstract

Three different support media are evaluated as substrates for iodide ion sensing optrodes. The optrodes are based on the dynamic quenching of adsorbed rhodamine 6G by iodide ion. Results indicate that the local environment of the rhodamine 6G molecules dictates strongly the sensitivity of a given optrode system. For example, the new sensor’s sensitivity clearly parallels the fluorophore’s accessibility by iodide ion.
