Abstract
We study business in terms of the coordination mechanisms encapsulated within the business processes. Our framework for studying the coordination mechanisms consists of our aspects, namely, the decision structure, information structure, workflow structure and agency structure. The research integrates various literature streams to develop this descriptive framework. We present examples drawn from the financial industry utilizing the framework. Some future research directions to understand and analyze business processes using the coordination approach are discussed.
