Abstract

Academic careers encompass performance of clinical duties, education, research, and administrative activities. To succeed, a knowledge of the local institutional requirements is key. Mentorship can also facilitate more rapid and efficient promotion and progression in academic careers. Women face some unique issues in academia, particularly balancing work-life issues, which differ from men, and persistent societal perceptions that make self-promotion more difficult.
