Abstract

Bromotricarbonyldi(pyridine)manganese(I) was first mentioned in the early 1960s in the context of infrared studies of metal carbonyl halide complexes. Several other studies of this complex have appeared since then detailing its spectroscopic properties. More recently, this complex has been found to be a useful synthon that efficiently transfers a -Mn(CO)3 group, primarily to prepare cymantrene complexes. This chapter discusses the procedure and properties of bromotricarbonyldi(pyridine)manganese(I). Bromotricarbonyldi(pyridine)manganese(I) is an orange-red, crystalline, light-sensitive solid that is soluble in pyridine, THF, and CH2Cl2.
