Abstract

Becoming a father is a major developmental epoch in men’s lives. Its psychosocial consequences are wide-ranging and include a renewed internal dialogue with one’s own father, an enhanced sense of masculinity, a changed relationship with one’s partner, and enrichment of one’s identity as a householder and responsible member of society. This chapter elucidates such matters while also making some observations on the neurobiological changes that often accompany the advent of fatherhood.
