Abstract

In the present work, automatic tolerance analysis has been developed as a proposed component of an enhanced production oriented CAD system. It includes the automatic acquisition of tolerance information from CAD databases, the analysis of relations among the tolerances in a specific design and the tolerance analysis in various design and manufacturing contexts, such as design assurance, tolerance distribution and coordinate transformation between design and manufacturing coordinate systems. A computer program AUTOANA (Automatic Tolerance Analysis Program) was developed to handle these problems. The tolerance analysis theories involved and programming schemes in AUTOANA are discussed. A test example is used to show the various functions of AUTOANA.
