Abstract
Subjects. Data from 13,792 subjects involved in the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey III were analyzed. Exposure. Attachment loss. Main Outcome Measure. History of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD). Main Results. Subjects with a mean attachment loss of greater than or equal to 2 mm have 35% elevated odds for COPD when compared to subjects with less than a 2-mm mean attachment loss (odds ratio, 1.35; 95% CI, 1.07-1.71). This comparison was adjusted for age, gender, race and ethnicity, education, income, number of dental visits, pack-years of smoking, alcohol consumption, and diabetes mellitus.
