Abstract
This chapter is a survey of associated motion in North America (including Mexico and Central America), showing that it is widespread, being found in 94 languages in twenty-nine families and isolates. The majority of sources do not distinguish markers of associated motion from directionals and in general seem unaware of associated motion as something found in other languages. The majority of languages lack the degree of complexity found in some languages in Australia and South America and almost half of them have only a single marker of associated motion. The languages with the most markers of associated motion are among Algonquian, Sahaptian, and Uto-Aztecan languages.
