Anomalous hole burning in polymers with inhomogeneous broadening

Abstract

For inhomogeneously broadened media such as polydiacetylene-4BCMU films, a phenomenological model is proposed to calculate the imaginary part of the optical susceptibility as a function of the pump field intensity. It is shown that the model can qualitatively account for the anomalous behavior of the absorption hole observed in recent experiments. A possible cause of the anomaly is discussed.
