Abstract

Intracranial aneurysms are not uncommonly associated with intracranial AVMs (iAVMs), and patients with these iAVM-associated aneurysms are reported to have increased rates of hemorrhage compared to patients with either type of lesion alone. Factors such as increasing age and infratentorial location have been associated with a higher rate of rupture. The pathophysiology of the development of iAVM-associated aneurysms is not fully understood, but it is thought to involve a complex interaction between genetic predisposition and focal hemodynamic stress. In this chapter, the authors review the natural history and classifications of iAVM-associated aneurysms..
