Abstract

This brief presents a wideband LC voltage-controlled oscillator (VCO) oscillating within the frequency range of 8.5 GHz to 12.3 GHz, achieving a tuning range of 37%. A varactor structure is proposed to enable the programmable KVCO feature for wideband VCO designs, ensuring comprehensive band coverage. The VCO is fabricated in UMC-65nm low-leakage CMOS process, achieving FoM and FoMTA of 182.8 dB and 208.4 dB, respectively, occupying a compact area of 0.038 mm2 using a power consumption of 2.76 mW from a 1.2-V supply.
