Abstract

A method is described for generating a hypothermal beam of metastable H3 molecules, intense enough for scattering and absorption spectroscopy experiments. From the flight time of these species between source and detector it is estimated that their lifetime exceeds 40 μs and that they are in the 2p2A'' state.
