Abstract
In this paper a unified analytical basis for the measurement of damping non-proportionality through indexing is presented. A new index is proposed better to clarify the characteristics of non-proportional damping. The monotonicity, independency and validity of the index are formulated and proved. Applications in error analysis are discussed and illustrated by several numerical examples.
