Abstract

A mass with a central abscess cavity was resected from the right lower lobe of the lung of a 42-year-old paranoid schizophrenic man who had a productive cough with blood-tinged sputum. After tumor and other infections were ruled out, antibodies to Entamoeba histolytica were found. Reexamination of the resected mass with special staining techniques confirmed the presence of amebic cells.
