Abstract
Policy makers have enacted policies that incentivize extending older adults' work lives This creates tension between age-related physical health challenges and incentives to work longer, especially for people with less financial security. While anti-discrimination laws can mitigate this tension by providing accommodations for disabled workers, current age discrimination laws do not require that option for older workers; federal age discrimination law has evolved in the opposite direction. To achieve more successful policies to increase labor supply and improve older workers' welfare, policy makers should strengthen age discrimination laws.
