Abstract

The period of independence in many African countries was met with a euphoria of endless possibilities. Africa was rich in resources. It had a wealth of people. And there were great potentials for the newly independent countries. Most of the elites who took over power were charged with ideologies from Marxist inclinations to capitalist ideations. There were examples from various territories on which to hinge the formation of these ideologies, but more importantly, there was hindsight about pre-colonial Africa and the benefits of some modalities of governance within these societal contexts.
