Advanced curriculum for cystic fibrosis: Integrating genomic-driven data into patient-centered treatment strategies

Owing to the high frequency and serious nature of cystic fibrosis, the development of targeted therapies for the management of this disease has been an active area of research (Online access: http://www.cmeelsevier.com/554). Pharmaceuticals have recently been designed which specifically target patients with certain genetic cystic fibrosis indicators allowing for a greater number of treatment options and a more individualized approach to disease management.It is critical that clinicians are educated about personalized genome-based medicine to better understand exactly how these agents work and the expected clinical outcomes, especially as our understanding of cystic fibrosis pathogenesis evolves.
