N2 - γ-alumina supported transition metal catalysts are widely used in heterogeneous catalytic processes, including water-gas shift, HDS, and NOx reduction. The metal atom/γ-alumina interface was studied. The adsorption and diffusion of several transition metal atoms over the (111) γ-alumina surface, including Pt, Pd, Cu, Au, and Ag, were compared. The stable adsorption sites were examined by mapping the potential energy surface for metal adsorption. The results enabled a comparison of the different metals and their affinity for the γ-alumina surface. This is an abstract of a paper presented at the AIChE Annual Meeting (Salt Lake, UT 11/4-9/2007).
