Abstract
Adherence to exercise, weight loss, and fitness changes in obese children is reported in a meta-analysis across four controlled-outcome studies from, the Pittsburgh Childhood Obesity Research Program. Results showed lower adherence in programs with higher caloric expenditure. Exercise adherence was related to changes in weight, fitness using the step test, and adherence to both record keeping and eating requirements. Problems in the use of end points such as weight and fitness changes for measures of adherence are discussed.
