Abstract
Chlorothiazide (a natriuretic antihypertensive drug), sulfamethoxypyrida-zine (another sulfonamide derivative lacking antihypertensive effect), and diazoxide (a sodium-retaining antihypertensive thiazide) were given to nephrectomized animals. The effects of these drugs on plasma electrolytes and acid-base pattern did not differ from that of 5% glucose solution alone. No acute extrarenal action of chlorothiazide on plasma electrolytes or acid-base balance was evident.
