Abstract
Acoustic agglomeration under the standing-wave condition is experimentally investigated using ammonium chloride particles. It is found that in a standing-wave agglomerator effective acoustic precipitation can be achieved at an acoustic intensity about one order of magnitude lower than that required for travelling-wave agglomerators under the same conditions in a stationary system. However, in a flow-through system, the steady-state gas flow greatly suppresses the acoustic turbulent motion which is believed to be responsible for the enhanced particle agglomeration. Thus, for a flow-through system the required acoustic intensity is higher than that for a stationary system.
