Abstract

A FILTER MODEL CONSISTING OF A RANDOM DISTRIBUTION OF PARALLEL FIBERS IS PROPOSED TO ACCOUNT FOR NONUNIFORM FIBER SPACINGS IN A REAL FILTER.THE AVERAGE PRESSURE DROP ACROSS THIS FILTER IS DETERMINED BASED UPON A RANDOM CELL MODEL OF HYDRODYNAMICS.THE RESULTS ARE FAVOURABLY COMPARED WITH EXISTING EXPERIMENTAL DATA.THE COMPUTATION IS ALSO EXTENDED TO THE SLIP FLOW REGIME WHERE THE KNUDSEN NUMBER IS NOT NEGLIGIBLE.(A.)
