A matter of conceptualization and representation: Teaching indexing concepts in the twenty-first century

Students of library and information science, whatever their interests and employment opportunities, need to have a strong understanding of fundamental LIS concepts, especially in the organization of information. The concepts behind indexing remain as relevant as ever, but need to be taught in a different and more inclusive way, through the lens of user needs and how to best address them through representation and conceptualization of information. Strategies used to address these issues are presented.
