Abstract

We present an investigation of the gas phase ion-molecule reactions of fullerene cations and dications with various neutrals utilizing a triple quadrupole mass spectrometer. The neutral reactant gases investigated include Ar, He, N2, CH4, NH3, O2, D2O, CH3OH, (CH3)2O, C3H6, CH3CH2CHCH2, and (CH3)2CH2. We report associative additions, partial charge transfer, and the formation of various fullerene adducts. The effect of collision energy, collision cell pressure, fullerene structure, and ionization energy on the reported reactions are addressed.
