Abstract
A Helix-Spindle model for engineering special-purpose ontologies is discussed. The Helix-Spindle model provides a new way of thinking about ontological engineering and incorporates several unique features not found in current ontological engineering approaches. The Helix-Spindle methodology is a Forward-Lockstep Build-Test model for building and testing the ontology artifact. The Helix-Spindle model provides a process for creating a representation vocabulary for meeting some prespecified requirements. The Helix-Spindle model for ontological engineering operates on two different levels which includes the bounded discourse universe and a domain of interest within the universe.
