Abstract

9(10→19)Abeo steroids combine structural features of both normal and 19-nor steroids. Starting with the known seco steroid (1) the total synthesis of the title compounds is described. Stereochemical assignments in 9(10→19)abeo-estradiol (13) and its 3-methyl ether (9) are made by x-ray analysis of the 17-ketone (11).
