THE RESEARCH FOUNDATION FOR SUNY ON BEHALF OF THE UNIVERSITY AT BUFFALO NEW HESTIA AWARD CONTROL NUMBER: 2625-1537 TITLE: MODULAR DESIGN AND ADDITIVE MANUFACTURING OF INTERLOCKING SUPERINSULATION PANEL FROM BIO-BASED FEEDSTOCK FOR AUTONOMOUS CONSTRUCTION WE PROPOSE MODULAR DESIGN AND ADDITIVE MANUFACTURING OF INTERLOCKING SUPERINSULATION PANEL MATERIALS USING BIOGENIC CELLULOSE/STRAW AND SILICA AEROGEL, THAT CAN ACHIEVE HIGH THERMAL INSULATION > R6/INCH, HIGH FLEXURAL STRENGTH (> 100 MPA), LOW MATERIAL PRICE < $ 0.5/FT2 WALL AREA, NET EMBODIED CARBON > -3000 (-1T NET CO2E/T MATERIAL), MOISTURE AND FIRE RESISTANCE. THE PROPOSED INTERLOCKING INSULATION PANELS WILL ENABLE NOT ONLY CARBON-STORING AND CARBON-NEGATIVE GREEN BUILDINGS BUT ALSO AUTONOMOUS INSTALLATION AND RECYCLING/REPURPOSING ABILITY.
